2019 Jaguar XF Sportbrake Review; The Real jaguar
Concentrating on its SUV offensive, the British brand no longer counted any break in its catalogue until today, with the arrival of the 2019 Jaguar XF Sportbrake. Is this great Wagon as attractive Interior and Exterior? Response to the steering wheel of a version 2.0 diesel 240 hp.
Like its competitors, Jaguar has put the package on the SUV (F-Pace, E-Pace)-a body that is now pulling out on the old Continent-temporarily setting aside some less-requested versions, such as breaks and sedans. It was therefore necessary to wait almost two years to see a new station wagon of the Jaguar catalogue: the new XF Sportbrake.
Technically, the length is the same as for the sedan (4.96 m) from which it flows. The designers preserved the seductive capital of the XF with gusto by revisiting exclusively the rear part. The break is one of the most statutory and racy of the market, compared to the recent Mercedes E-Class break and BMW 5 touring series. Only the new Volvo V90 can boast such an elegant design.
By adopting a tailgate (electric optional), the British slightly improves its loading volume which reaches 565 litres, seat in place. The latter can climb to 1 700 liters. It does not make it the best mover in the market, but it is appreciated the presence of a flat floor obtained from the trunk and a low and square loading threshold, which facilitates the storage of bulky objects. The break also receives a rail to compartmentalize space, a luggage net, and a removable retractor that can be concealed under the floor.
In the 2019 Jaguar XF Sportbrake Interior, no surprises since it takes over the driving position of the sedan. A neat but very traditional universe in his drawing. The XF offers a low driving position and a low glazed surface that can sometimes cause a feeling of engoncement. Classic in its development, the station wagon however benefits from the latest technologies such as a digital display, a central multimedia tablet and some gadgets such as aerators and gearbox control that deploy at startup.
At the rear seats, the passengers have a very decent space for the legs and the head. Only two travel with a comfort worthy of the name since the transmission tunnel impacts the middle place.
2019 Jaguar XF Sportbrake Test Drive
The Jaguar XF break renews all the motorisation and transmission of the sedan, namely the four cylinders petrol and diesel, but also a V6 whose powers peak at 300 hp. The four-cylinder diesel 2.0 of our test is not the most discreet or the most creamy of the market, but it compensates by a muscular couple (500 Nm) which offers a constant thrust and Manly repeats. The 240 hp are all present and well managed by the comfortable 8-speed ZF auto box. At the pump, the balance sheet is fairly correct with an average of 8.9 l/100 km recorded during our test. However, a penalty of 2 773 € (153 g CO2/km) will be required.
The presence of an integral transmission of series makes the motor optimal on all the coatings, as here on the snow. However, unfortunately pavement of tires summer, the British did not defy the laws of nature. The peculiarity of this break is its rear suspensions. The latter are pneumatic and have a trim checker that allows to stay stable when the car is loaded or towing a trailer (2 ton traction capacity). Too bad, it does not offer the possibility of lowering the height of the vehicle at the stop to facilitate the loading, as at Volvo for example with the V90.
At the driving, the break takes up the qualities of the sedan with a clear and precise direction, strong supports in curve and a very reassuring road handling. This great traveller, at ease on the main axes and the secondary roads, delivers a level of comfort worthy of its coat of arms, reinforced by a good soundproofing of the cockpit. Attention However, the first wheel turns require a time of adjustment given the size of the XXL template and the low glazed surface. In particular city, this 2019 Jaguar XF Sportbrake does not evolve like a fish in water.
