2019 Skoda Karoq 2.0 TDI Review – Nice SUV Alternative
The 2019 Skoda Karoq is already one of the best price/performance ratios in the segment. The Czech SUV will soon be available on the French market with a high-end 2.0 TDI version of 190 hp four-wheel drive and automatic gearbox. Thus endowed, the karoq makes a solid carton and shows itself excellent in any situation.
Launched at the end of last year, the 2019 Skoda Karoq is the last born of Mlada Boleslav, in the Czech Republic. The brand has been on the rise for a few years with an unbridled annual growth and a success that even gossips the Volkswagen mother House, which deems the advantages of Skoda (less expensive labor, especially on the Superb) to be unfair.
At the first contact with our high-end version, we find our landmarks with the Czech productions. The style is sober, even a little too much. The front is overall successful but the back is a sad bit, while the profile does not surprise anyone. Beauty and aesthetics are subjective criteria, we leave you the care to give you an opinion, but it is clear that Skoda is always so cautious, despite a proven success that could have given wings to designers. Maybe for next time…
2019 Skoda Karoq Dimensions & Specs
|Power||190 hp between 3500 and 4000 rpm|
|Couple||400 Nm between 1750 and 3250 rpm|
|CO2 emissions||138 g / km|
The KAROQ is one of the shortest in the segment, at 4.37 meters (7 centimeters less than a rajbhandari Kadjar), but Skoda maintains its good habits with an excellent relationship between external clutter and onboard space.
Under The Hood, it is sometimes hard to believe that the karoq is finally relatively short. The rear seats are generous and the chest volume, 521 liters, is one of the best in the category. Note that our trial version was a style finish for the Czech Republic that differs from the French style karoq on several points. The karoq Style TDI 190 will include the Varioflex, absent on this test model. What is the Varfiolex? In practical terms, the three seats in the backseat are all independent: they can swivel, be removed or slide. A very practical device that can be found on other cars of the brand.
The 2019 Skoda Karoq was also one of the first Skoda vehicles to adopt digital instrumentation, the “digital cockpit”. Equipment that you will find as an option when marketing.
2019 Skoda Karoq Engine Performance
On the road, the Karoq is a good compromise between comfort and precision. Less incisive than a Seat Ateca, the Czech instead plays the map of flexibility, which is even more verified with this version with the full transmission (Haldex system) and the automatic box. The karoq displays 1677 kg on the scale… A large mass that explains the 0 to 100 km/h (8.9 seconds) just correct given the characteristics of the mechanics, which still claims 190 hp and especially 400 Nm between 1750 and 3250 rpm.
Once out of the bitumen, this karoq reveals itself with a real ease in all-terrain, as long as it has winter tires (in the case of use on snow) or, at minimal, of M + S of quality. Its overhang more reduced than a Kodiaq and its compact size have greatly facilitated the task in the snowy and icy slopes of Finnish Lapland, even if the ground guard prevents to splurge.
Icing on the cake, the karoq Can inherit, as an option, from the Kodiaq Scout’s mode “Offroad “, which allows access to the Coast Start wizard, automatic downhill speed control (we have tested it, and it is very effective) and Specific management of the accelerator. With the generous torque of the diesel engine, all this electronic armada does a great job. It should also be noted that it is possible to completely disconnect the traction control for those who would like to fully manage all-terrain gases without being neutered by electronics.
