2019 Suzuki Swift 1.2 Dualjet SHVS Review; Redesign, Interior, Size
After a first test carried out with the 1.0 BoosterJet, now places the other engine of the 2019 Suzuki Swift, the 1.2 SHVS coupled to the system of micro-hybrid SHVS. Will this second motorization be at the height of the first, it is that we will see in this essay.
The fourth generation of Swift was launched in the first quarter of this year. Her mission was delicate: she had to replace the previous Swift which had been a commercial success. Nine months after its launch, the new 2019 Suzuki Swift seems to be part of a good foundation. Thus, over the first eleven months of the year, it was nearly 6 800 copies, an increase of almost 4% compared to 2016. So certainly at this time, the previous Swift was at the end of life but the first observation is rather encouraging.
To try to reproduce the previous success has taken up the same revival while bringing many changes. This first starts with a totally different look.
Contrary to the old, this one makes less unanimity with more banal lines as attested by the more massive grille, the body lift at the level of the back door and its opening integrated into the quarter in the manner of the last Clio by Example. Like many of its competitors, this new generation is deadlocked on the 3-door body to focus on the 5-door.
But beware, the Swift remains in a length of only 3.84 m or 1 cm more than the old one is still largely under the bar of 4 meters. Good news, it does not impact too much the practical aspects that remain convincing whether it is for rear habitability or the volume of loading with 265 liters.
Finally, the Swift continues to play the card of personalization with the option So’Color (€850) which allows a shade of roof different from that of the bodywork.
2019 Suzuki Swift Interior Changes
The dashboard also changes at all. Unfortunately, the first impression is marred by the very average quality of plastics and by their shiny appearance. A relatively dark and sad presentation must also be added to this. Past these first pitfalls, we discover a well designed habitable with good ergonomics and the assembly perfectly correct. But the strong point of this Swift is its high-performance price/equipment ratio. Thus, our high-end “Pack” test model offers standard inadvertent line change alert, Apple CarPlay compatibility, Android Auto, automatic projector management, 16-inch alloy wheels, regulator/ Speed limiter, electrically folding mirrors, multimedia system with 7-inch screen 3d navigation and traffic info, automatic air conditioning, backup camera, key-free access and start-up, emergency braking and windows Front and rear electrical. A particularly complete endowment.
2019 Suzuki Swift Performance
On the road, after the 3 cylinders 1.0 Boosterjet 110 Horsepower tested during the presentation, now place at the entry level. Despite a higher cylinder capacity, the power displayed by this 1.2 is lower since it develops 90 hp. These two engines are the only ones present in the catalog because the Swift is only available in petrol but both can be coupled with SHVS micro-hybridization system consisting of an electric motor and an alternate starter. During the start and acceleration phases, this device reduces consumption. We were able to raise an average of 6.4 l/100km. Well without being extraordinary either.
For use, this engine proves to be less punchy than the 1.0 with a torque of 120 nm against 170 nm. Inevitably, this is felt in the accelerations with one second less at 0 to 100 km/h (11.9 s against 10.6 s). Not fabulous but better than some competitors like a Rio en 84 Hp That puts 12.9 s on this same exercise. A difference due to the contribution of the hybrid system but also to the reduced weight of this 2019 Suzuki Swift which displays a mass of only 840 kg while the other models in the category generally exceed the tonne. Finally, the last specificity, this engine can be coupled to an integral transmission, which is not the case of 1.0.
Beyond the effects on consumption and accelerations, this design also has consequences on behavior. As was the case with the previous, the new 2019 Suzuki Swift plays the map of simplicity. The not overly assisted management allows having a good feedback, although its tendency to follow the road may baffle some, it reminds of the old sports. This goes with a certain agility that provides a pleasure of undeniable driving. So, yes, this Swift is less perfect than the references in the category that can be a Clio or 208 but it gives a smile. Only regret, some aid to the driving, a little too intrusive in the image of the system of Pre-collision that operates too quickly.
