2020 Audi A1 30 TFSI Release Date

2020 Audi A1 30 TFSI Release Date

2020 Audi A1 30 TFSI Review: Better Than Ever – Much more habitable, without diesel, without a three-door version and completely redesigned, the Audi A1 Sportback is also distinguished by new engines. We took the wheel of the petrol version of 116 hp.

The modes evolve and the styles change, and the automobile does not escape the rule. There was a time when wide jeans “baggy” was fashionable, just like, in another era, the cigarette or the hair “embossed” and the long neck in hairdressing. But all this has evolved, as has the design of the Audi A1, which has gone from round without edges or sharp lines to a knife – cut style, characterized by ribs and geometric cutouts very marked.

2020 Audi A1 Redesign

And after a “dieselgate” that has had the skin of the diesel engine in Europe, the second-generation Audi A1 overlooks the mechanics that is anyway more suitable for heavy rollers than for city dwellers. Thus, the revolution is put in place under the hood ribbed of this small A1 which has however not much of “Mini”: the car has gained 6 cm, rising to 4.03 meters.

Of course, the “magic” of the gain in size, especially on the wheelbase (+ 9 cm), operates: the rear passengers finally feel at ease and the trunk volume proudly displays its 335 liters, which is remarkable for a car of this size. The 2020 Audi A1 Sportback of today would be the Audi A3 of yesterday, or almost

2020 Audi A1 Engine Specs

The range of the 2020 Audi A1 is based on four petrol engines, ranging from 95 to 200 hp, the first two being three cylinders. It is precisely one of them that motorized our test model, an A1 30 TFSI of 116 hp. This three-cylinder is remarkable for silence and flexibility. The almost total absence of vibration has led us to ask Audi if this block was equipped with a balance shaft … negative answer.

A nice engineering work, therefore, for a three-cylinder 1.0 developing 116 hp and 200 Nm of torque, a good value for a small engine that has a slight dip under 2000 rpm but which, overall, shows up surprisingly elastic and voluntary. The combination with the S-Tronic double-clutch gearbox is an example of a successful symbiosis between transmission and engine, with more than enough boost for a relatively light car, and most importantly, well-tuned gearbox management. In “dynamic” mode (via Drive Select), this S-Tronic does not fall into caricature and does an excellent job, not passing reports too late.

Unfortunately, this engine is also the example of the limits of downsizing. The reduction in engine capacity and number of cylinders has no great effect on fuel consumption: we recorded 7.1 l / 100 km on our test day, with no particularly dynamic driving, and with few really urban portions. With a driving exclusively on departmental, stabilized speed, it will of course be possible to descend, but not necessarily at very low levels. The fuel balance is therefore against this three-cylinder.

2020 Audi A1 On The Road

The A1 is illustrated by a successful behavior. The steering is more precise than before, and the shortening of the cantilevers associated with the widening of the tracks gives another face to the A1, much more stable. Its big defect remains nevertheless a depreciation of the firmest. On a classic version, already, the suspensions are rather firm and hit hard on the roughness of the road, but it gets worse in S-Line chassis, with harder springs of 10%. Suffice to say that the S-Line version with 18-inch wheels is strongly discouraged for those with back problems, even if, obviously, it is one of the most dynamic in terms of style.

To maintain a minimum of flexibility (all relative concept on this A1), it will, therefore, be necessary to opt for the classic chassis rims 17 (or 16 inches). The firmness of depreciation, however, has a positive effect: the roll is virtually non-existent, and on laces with a good bitumen, driving becomes a real pleasure.

2020 Audi A1 Price & Equipment

The range of the Audi A1 will start at € 20,000. But on our test model 30 TFSI S Line, with some options, the price goes up … to more than 37 000 €. A sacred bill for a car that presents some poor quality materials.

Plastics (in the lower part as in the upper part!) Are almost all hard and certainly very sensitive to scratches. Apart from the dashboard, everything else is composed of very rough plastics. An unworthy partition for such a price level even if, fortunately, the assemblies do not suffer from any reproach. It should also be noted, also, the good work of adjustments in bodywork.

The 2020 Audi A1 catches up with high-end technological content and flawless ergonomics. The large, high-definition screen is ultra responsive, and the virtual cockpit is standard on all finishes. The A1 clearly puts a slap on the competition in the field of driving position, and it is interesting today that a technology launched by the duo A8/A7 early this year landed, already today, at the other end of the scale at Audi.

Still, prices are damn salty for an A1 that is certainly more versatile than ever but also makes some small mistakes almost unforgivable at this price level. And remember that we are only on a version 30 TFSI of 116 hp. What will happen, sometime, at the opening of the orders of the version 40 TFSI 200 Horsepower?
