The first deliveries of the 2020 Mercedes GLC F-Cell production will begin at the end of October. Waiting for the arrival of the first copies. Here is the information about the technical part of the premium SUV with hydrogen.
The brand with the star showed last year the pre-production version of its elevated vehicle to fuel cell GLC F-Cell. The schedule is moving forward and the information available about it too. Here is the data of its final technical part a few weeks before the arrival in the showrooms of the production cars.
The model combines for the first time in a hybrid way electricity and hydrogen. Motorists will have the opportunity to “partially fill up” with a standard outlet in a public station, on a wall box or at home. The technology can slightly reduce the hydrogen dependence of the car. The Mercedes GLC F-Cell can travel up to 51 kilometers via this power source. In hybrid mode, the SUV has with its tank of 4.4 kilos with a range of 478 kilometers: numbers up from those of the prototype unveiled in the past.
Like the GLC Plug-in Hybrid, the fuel-cell variant comes with various operating modes and drive programs. The drive programs of the GLC F-CELL will include ECO, COMFORT, and SPORT. ECO is optimized for low consumption. COMFORT is geared not only for comfort but also provides ideal climate control. SPORT optimizes the hybrid powertrain for sporty performance.
While the drive programs change the behavior of the car and therefore the driving experience, the operating modes influence the interplay between the fuel cell and high-voltage battery. The combination of drive programs with operating modes is presented for the first time in this form in a fuel-cell vehicle.
2020 Mercedes GLC F-Cell Battery Capacity & range
The lithium-ion battery offers a capacity of 13.5 kWh. The latter drives the 211-horsepower electric motor of the high-legged model. The fuel cell is placed under the hood of the GLC F-Cell. The batteries and the electric motor are positioned at the rear. Deliveries will begin at the end of October. As often with this type of mechanics, Mercedes does not offer the complete purchase of GLC F-Cell. Interested motorists will sign a rental agreement including maintenance and a warranty.
