Representing more than 90% of sales, three diesel engines are already available: a 4-cylinder 2.0 of 245 hp 500 Nm and a 6-cylinder inline 3.0 in 272 hp and 600 Nm or 330 hp and 700 Nm, for relatively close performance since only 1.5 s separates the two extremes over the 0 to 100 km / h range from 5.7 to 7.2 s. At launch, the GLE will start with a single gasoline engine. A 6-cylinder 357 hp equipped with a 48V technology that provides a “boost” function and a braking energy recovery. In all cases, the transmission will be provided by the 9-speed automatic transmission and a 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

Our test model is indeed a 350d, the diesel intermediate developing 272 hp but especially 600 Nm from 1200 to 3200 rpm, a range in which the nine-speed automatic transmission is happy to stay. What quickly forget the 2,235 kg of all that is torn off the ground with ease, with a 0 to 100 km / h announced in just 6.6 s.
Unfortunately, the gravity brings you painfully to reality when going to the pump since, at the end of our test, we found an average of 8.8 l / 100 km with only two people on board and adopting a flexible driving.
Long stretches of highways have allowed us to experiment with Adaptive Cruise Control for a long time and it is one of the most effective on sale today. In fact, it offers complete autonomy in traffic jams by taking care of all the functions related to driving from 0 to 60 km / h but, above all, it shows great flexibility, preserving with the talent the occupants of steering, braking or acceleration.

If the vehicle stops, it can restart alone (maximum stopping time of one minute). On multi-lane roads, the directional assistant offers a function that facilitates the passage of a vehicle. urgency: the car runs as far as the edge of the lane. In terms of comfort, in addition to the system that analyzes the road upstream (Road Surface Scan) and the one that compensates the inclination in turns, the GLE receives a new undercarriage E-Active Body Control.
