2020 Mercedes V-Class Redesign – Just a Minimal Changes | After five years on the market, the V-Class benefits from an update. On the aesthetic level, evolutions are rare. There is a little more to say about the technique.
The preferred car of chic shuttle drivers goes through the restyling box. The update is light, sales are good (for a model of this kind). This New generation of V-Class has gone from its beginnings (in 2014) to more than 205,000 copies, including 64,000 last year. Note that the redesign also concerns the motorhome variant, named Marco Polo.
On the outside, an element can recognize the 2019 vintage: the front bumper. It now incorporates a large mouth, with decorative hooks on both sides. The grille and the bars of the grille evolve. The AMG Line version is renewed, with its specific air intakes. She wins a diamond effect grille. Four new rim designs (17 to 19 inches) are on the menu. The palette of colors is enriched with new colors. At the level of the dashboard, the most attentive will notice the new aerators, with a drawing in the turbine.
Engine Specs – Get New Powertrain
The 2020 Mercedes V-Class is offered with a new four-cylinder diesel engine. The restyled version is for the moment announced in two variants: 250 d and 300 d. The first develops 190 hp, the second delivers 239 hp. Mercedes promises that the engine will be less vibrant and less sound. Optionally, the brand will offer a 9-speed automatic transmission (up from 7 previously). The all-wheel drive will also be available at an additional cost.
From now on, the V-Class will be marketed with the last block OM 654 already appeared on the class E or class C sedans . More modern, this 4-cylinder diesel engine, compliant with the latest anti-pollution standards (Euro 6-d Temp), has a major advantage: a reduction in fuel consumption and significant CO2 emissions. Indeed, companies using this model must pay the ecological penalty generated. The 2020 Mercedes V-Class does not enter the category of LCVs … and is therefore not exempt from this “tax”.
The catalog will be available in 220d versions (163 hp), 250d (190 hp) and 300d (239 hp). For the moment, only the technical characteristics of the 250d and 300d are available because the 220d is in the process of being homologated. Result, Mercedes announces consumptions stretching from 5.9 to 6.3 1/100 km and CO emissions between 154 and 165 g / km in propulsion. All-wheel drive versions, called 4Matic, are advertised at between 171 and 180 g / km for CO emissions. Be careful, however, because these values correspond to correlated NEDC standards and not WLTP. The latter, which are more stringent on the method of calculating emissions, will come into effect on January 1, 2020 and will logically raise these numbers. Gold more gram of CO2 will probably mean more ecological malus to pay !
Last precision on the engines. To meet the needs of downtown professionals, Mercedes has revealed that a 100% electric version of the V-Class will be unveiled at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in the form of a concept called EQV.
Still in the mechanical chapter, the manufacturer to the star announces that the 250d and 300d engines can be mated to the new 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. This one replaces the 7G-Tronic replaces it. With this new feature, Mercedes announces lower fuel consumption and above all an improved driving pleasure. Drivers will be able to select their driving mode by pressing the Dynamic Select button. On the menu are the “Comfort”, “Sport” and “M” solutions. The latter allows you to change gear manually by operating the control paddles behind the steering wheel.
Safety is Top Priority
The primary mission of Class V is to transport people. To ensure their maximum safety, Mercedes has therefore added yet many assistance and driving aids. As a reminder, the previous version already had ESP and ASR systems, a tire pressure warning device, a cruise control / speed limiter, thorax and pelvis side airbags, an active locking system for the Sliding rear door, Attention Assist sleep warning system and Crosswind Assist which limits course deviations during lateral wind gusts. From now on, the driver can take advantage of the Active Brake Assist system. This automatic braking can prevent accidents or reduce the consequences of an impact with a vehicle at the front, stationary obstacles and pedestrians. In addition, the new Highbeam Assist Plus system will make driving easier by allowing you to drive with the headlamps on all the time and switch to low beam only when the situation demands it.
2020 Mercedes V-Class Release Date & Price
Finally, for the occupants, Mercedes will offer its customers new and more comfortable seats with new functions in the 2020 Mercedes V-Class. The German brand wants to satisfy the maximum so-called “VIP” passengers transported by professionals providing premium services. Thus, just like in the Class Limousine , luxury seats are available … at an undisclosed price. These contain the functions of full tilt, air conditioning so you can warm up or chill and back massage with three different intensities.
Regarding prices, Mercedes prefers to wait for the presentation with great fanfare at the Geneva show to reveal them. Nevertheless, some indiscretions allow us to announce that inflation should not exceed 3% compared to the previous generation. The price of entry-level 220d Avantgarde finish would therefore be around € 47,000.
