The new factory, a new platform, and new faces, Audi has put the package to put his 2020 Audi Q3 in the lead pack of premium SUV. With success? Test drive version 2.0 TFSi 230 hp.
He was one of the first to enter the premium SUV market 10 years ago, but since then the competition has been organized. The Volvo XC40, BMW X1 or even Jaguar E-Pace, more recent design, have grafted market share in the Q3 returns today with the firm intention to recover his throne.
An SUV is above all a story of look and the 2020 Audi Q3 is on the page with significant evolutions. The silhouette is more compact with a reduced height, the shoulder more marked on the arches of wheels and the grille “single frame” follows the trend of the Q range with reduced dimensions and a honeycomb style. It is now possible to “customize” The Q3 by choosing a different color, gray, for the lower part that surrounds the car. But today an SUV must also meet the needs of a small family. Thanks to its new platform, it grows about ten centimeters in favor of passengers and luggage. This gain makes the Q3 one of the best hosts on the market alongside the BMW X1, a leader in the field. More, The latter makes it possible to modulate the trunk volume from 530 to 675 liters, which proves to be excellent. The hands-free tailgate (option) opens a fully behavioral cargo hold. Unfortunately, the floor is not completely flat and it is impossible to fold the seat from the trunk.
Now more suited to the family, the German SUV also treats its passengers with high-quality manufacturing. Foamed plastics and aluminum dress up a 100% digital and connected world. It takes the combination of the Audi A8, namely a digital cockpit and a multimedia touchpad equipped with connected services that work as well as a smartphone. Also on the menu, a kind of artificial intelligence that recognizes the preferences of the driver and offers his favorite music or routes, from the outset. Recent smartphone owners will be pleased to hear that the Q3 offers induction charging and USB-C connectivity.
2020 Audi Q3 Performance and Fuel Efficiency
At the launch in France at the end of 2018, Audi will offer three petrol engines including one with cylinder deactivation and diesel. Audi introduces for the first time the new 4-cylinder gasoline cylinder deactivation appeared for the first time under the hood of the Golf 7. A relevant choice gave the current demand for this carburation. At its side, a 2.0 TFSi is offered in two power levels: 190 and 230 hp, the one of our test. An engine that usually operates under the hood of sports vehicles such as the Volkswagen Golf GTi or the Audi TT. Here, the philosophy of conduct is less radical. The 2.0 is used to power the 4 wheels in torque linearly through a fluid S-Tronic box but sometimes nonchalant, which results in a smooth and quiet ride. The best in town. Powerful but not disruptive, it limits breakage at the pump with a combined consumption of 11 l / 100 km recorded during our test in the mountains. We bet that on the flat and at a lower rate, the latter can easily go down to 8 l / 100 km. To date, Audi has not yet communicated the technical specificities of Q3, including CO2 levels. As a result, we are not yet able to display the ecological malus wiped by this version.
In parallel, the offer is completed by a 150 hp (340 Nm) diesel engine initially available with a manual transmission and a Quattro transmission. Subsequently, customers will be able to opt for the seven-speed S tronic automatic transmission associated with the traction version. Finally, in 2019, a 190 hp version will extend the range.
To put his model back on the market benchmarks, Audi has filled up with driving aids. Thus the Q3 receives, according to the finishes, a semi-autonomous driving system with traffic jams function, a 360 ° camera, the detection of pedestrians and cyclists as well as a predictive driving system similar to the Q7, which scans the road and analyzes the route via GPS mapping to adapt the driving mode and the firmness of the suspensions in function.
Designed for urban and small families, the Q3 must be accessible to the greatest number. It is besides its ease of handling which strikes from the first turns of wheels. The driver quickly takes the fold, helped by good peripheral visibility and a template that remains contained (4.48 m). The manufacturer has worked to increase the comfort level of its vehicle and it is successful. This requires an excellent sound insulation and a work of suspensions that borders on perfection. At least on our test version equipped with the piloted suspension (option) configurable (sport, comfort, etc.) that makes you quickly forget the generous 19 “pneumatic mounts. At ease in the city, especially with the progressive steering that increases the steering angle, the Q3 reinforces its services of passengers on road and highway. Focusing on favors homogeneity and efficiency. Audi puts the cursor between a stacked XC40 and an incisive BMW X1, which should appeal to most. A sports suspension with firmer controls will operate on S-Line versions.

A system that was effective during our test in the Alps where the reception is usually capricious.
