The entry-level petrol engine of the Peugeot 5008, the Puretech 130 previously available with the 6-speed automatic transmission has recently benefited from the latest generation of automatic transmission PSA group: the EAT8. Is the pleasure still at the rendezvous?
We often talk about the commercial cardboard of the Peugeot3008, but we tend to forget that his big brother the 5008 also knows a big craze. It easily dominates the family SUV category with 31,000 sales in 2018, far ahead of the Nissan X-Trail, Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace.
No need to be a genius to understand the reasons for these flattering sales figures. Just look at it and see the many similarities that may exist between the 3008 and the Peugeot 5008. If you like one, you will necessarily love each other. Externally, the front faces are almost identical with this touch of dynamism and modernity that characterizes the family. Only the rear part evolves logically.
Same kinship in the cockpit with the now well known “i-cockpit”, which always impresses people who discover it for the first time. The charm of the Peugeot 5008 is not just about its design or presentation, which are totally subjective elements. The practical aspects were very well studied, as was the modularity. Thus, the 5008 is equipped with 7 seats thanks to the presence of two retractable seats located in the trunk. Places that will serve, as usual in the category, essentially to troubleshooting because of reduced space. In the second row, no bench but individual sliding seats offering interesting livability whether it is in the space of the legs or the roof guard. Easily adjustable, the trunk has a loading capacity of between 700 and 1,940 liters depending on the configuration, which positions it as the reference of the category.

But it is above all the driving qualities that allow him to make a difference. With its small steering wheel, its precise and incisive front end, and its excellent balance, the Peugeot 5008 shows a real dynamism on the road, a rather rare quality in the category, which is not done at the expense of comfort that is everything foreground. Already tested by us, the 130 hp Puretech mechanical box is still recommendable. After being available with the 6-speed automatic transmission, it now receives the latest generation of PSA transmission.
An evolution that does not change the temperament of this association but allows to remember its excellence with changes of reports particularly fluid and natural, all in a very pleasant operating silence whether on the road or in urban use. However, do not forget that this engine, which is a 1.2-liter three-cylinder can not work miracles.

Contrary to what can be done elsewhere, this entry-level engine is not present in the two most extreme levels either in the first Access trim level or the high-end GT-Line.
Our test model was an intermediate finish “Allure”, which represents the majority of sales. It offers complete equipment, including the Safety Plus package (Lane Keeping Assist, blind spot monitoring, automatic high beam switching), front parking radar with reversing camera, 18-inch wheels, access and keyless start, electric exterior mirrors, tinted rear windows, Mirror Screen function, 3D navigation, and TEP / Tissue upholstery. Special mention for that of our test called “Evron Guerande” which bathes the cabin in a clear and very zen and pleasant atmosphere.
